Why are Sea Animals in Russia being found dead? By:Ximena Arreguin
Have you ever wondered what life would be like without animals? A world cold and dry
without birds waking you up in morning, or simply going out to dinner to eat that amazing
seafood. Although all of that sounds amazing, some of it is at risk, like sea animals including
crabs, octopus, large fish, shrimp and many more being in danger. These past few days an
incredible amount of sea animals have been found washed up on the shore all due to pollution that has hit very badly even in the bottom of the seafloor in the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia.
It has recently been discovered that the cause of this pollution, in fact, was some type of a toxic chemical was thrown in the waters to result in this bad catastrophe. According to Livescience.com “ Surfers say that the water is mildly burning their eyes.” The chemicals were so bad that in result of that the animals could not have been able to survive in those waters. Since the deathly products were tested, petroleum was found to be a major ingredient and its levels were 4 times stronger than what they usually are. “ I think that with all the technology today in 2020, there should be a way to get rid of “poisonous” substances that can kill our world” states Nayeli Castillo, who was very upset by all these tragic occurrences.
“While many initially suspected pollution scientists now say that the deaths were probably
caused by an algal bloom” said The National Geographic website also stating the fact that not
only are small animals in danger but sea otters too. Algae bloom is a microscopic cyanobacteria
that can be turned green often seen in ponds, rivers, and even the Pacific Ocean. It is also said that all of the pollution being spread all over the peninsula may be linked to climate change and some other polluting after effects. “ If I were some type of proper authority, like a president, I would definetfly make rules to be cleaner and not throw stuff in our ocean that can result in big bad problems.” states Lesli Mandujano, 11th grade hillgrove high school student as she learns about the deaths of the animals in Russia.
Although there are so many things going on around the world, it is always important to see
a good thing in everything, even if it's the smallest detail you could ever think of, whether it is
the beginning of a new week or just a small accomplishment. Ever since surfers, that tend to do
what they do best, surf, found all of these creatures just dead in the khalaktyrsky beach and since
then scientists and marine experts have been trying to find a way to stop this. The world is our
only home and we should all learn how to take care of it as much as we can.
