Hurricane Delta by:Ximena Arreguin
Hurricane Delta, is a very prominent name circulating in the news of the Southeast.
The 25th, category 4 tropical storm of the year 2020 has hit the Yucatan peninsula In
Mexico, alongside Creole, Louisiana in the United States and caused a lot more flooding than
Hurricane Laura did in Lake Charles. Hurricane delta is also expected to bring about 5-10
inches of rain in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama and as if it were not bad enough, there are
also tornado watch alerts threatening Georgia, Mississippi, Florida and Alabama. Unfortunately,
Delta’s aftermath has brought 3 deaths in Louisiana and Florida.
“I think it is all very unfortunate because so many people are losing their homes” expresses
Sarah Espinoza as she watches the news constantly, especially during this hurricane season.
August through November are the months with the most hurricanes reported every year,
therefore, many people are more prone to losing their home and survival needs like
food and water. Alex Arreguin a senior in high school stated “If I were able to donate anything
for the people who were left homeless, I would help them with food donations or any other
type of donation possible.” Donating anything, whether its a dollar or some toilet paper is still
very helpful and can help save a life.
Along with hurricanes, there are always most likely to be tornados and even other types of
natural disasters, these involve rip currents, strong winds and flooding, which is what Louisiana
and other nearby states are experiencing it. Hurricane delta has also left thousands and thousands
of people without power. In addition, Delta slammed the same region as Hurricane Laura which hit the coast of Louisiana on August 27th and proves just how bad these last couple of months have been for this area.
Being well informed is something with a big importance which is why the governor of Louisiana is launching a hurricane resource website. According to CBS news, on the website you
can find important information such as weather information and resources. The governor of
Louisiana has also told its residents that it is recommended to be “vigilant over the tropical
depression since they are in such bad times.” Overall in the year 2020 there has been about 16
natural disaster each worth $1 billion dollars worth to repair all damage and hope the do not get
any more bad weather news.
