In the first week of September, “X-Force”, based on the Marvel Comics superhero team, was officially given a director by 20th Century Fox and new details have also been announced about the film. After the success of the first Deadpool movie, and with the sequel to the film well underway, a film based on the X-Force was rumored to be in development at Fox. This naturally excited many fans of Marvel, even comic fan Kim Dor expressed her excitement and added, “I'm more excited to see who acts out some of the characters.” Now, the movie is confirmed to be written and directed by Drew Goddard. Goddard’s previous projects include working on Marvel’s “Daredevil”, as well as writing the script for Ridley Scott’s “The Martian”.
On top of the director being announced, information about the film’s premise has also been revealed. “X-Force” will revolve around the anti-hero Deadpool and his partner, the time-traveling mutant Cable, as they lead a special ops team comprised of other mutants as they take on the more brutal situations as opposed to the missions taken on by the X-Men. Producer Simon Kinberg said when comparing both teams that the X-Force are “much darker and have an r-rated decibel.” The fact that Deadpool and Cable are the two leads makes sense considering that Deadpool started the trend of r-rated X-Men spinoffs and Cable is the leader of the team in the comics. The actor who plays Deadpool, Ryan Reynolds, is also producing the film along with Kinberg.
“X-Force” will be based on the Marvel Comic of the same name. The comic follows a group of anti-hero mutants as they partake in brutal missions that are usually untouched by the X-Men, who are the subjects of less darker stories. Usually, the team consists of Deadpool, Cable, the assassin Domino, as well as other B- list X-Men characters. It has been implied that the movie will be foreshadowed in the upcoming sequel to the first Deadpool film, “Deadpool 2”. The movie will once again star Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, officially introduce Josh Brolin as Cable, and be released in 2018.
