Fall break is a good opportunity for relaxation and making fun plans with that week from school. Plans for fall break could include just “Sitting around and sleeping, hanging out with family or heading out to the local fair” said Serena Swallow, a sophomore at Hillgrove. Although, fall has more to offer than just the break aspect like other fall holidays: Thanksgiving and Halloween, like “Apple picking in orchards and hanging decorations and eating candy corn” Blanca Rivera said. We get a week off for Thanksgiving but, we don’t get a day off for Halloween when “Halloween is a huge commercial day where companies get a lot of money, and we get a bunch of candy and schools shouldn't ruin that.” Dani Rutledge commented and when questioned, Serena says “It’s [Halloween] the best holiday I would love to have no other holiday but Halloween.”
Though the planning and break from school is good, there are pros and cons to fall break as well. Some pros to fall break would be: “No school. It's so fun not to be in school. It's [school] so stressful” from Serena Swallows, Blanca Rivera said, “Fall gives you a good opportunity to relax and catch up with your work if you must. Plus, it gives you more time to hang out with friends”. Cons of fall break would be: “Not everyone can get a fall break, and everyone deserves to have a break so we can go to work better than before the break” mentioned by Dani Rutledge. “I can't see friends. I love to be social and to see my friends. During break I'm just stuck with my family” stated Serena. Obviously, things aren’t the same everywhere. Up north in places like New York and New Jersey, schools start later in the year as opposed to Georgia’s. Blanca Rivera said that she’d rather have it in Georgia because “If we start in September that extra month to June feels longer than it must be up north. It feels like we have a head-start”. Now that fall break is over, we need to get back to work now and do our best for Thanksgiving break.
