As the world continues to progress, the one thing people can expect is new and captivating television shows, but depending on your platform you might be expecting very different shows. If you're still loyal to cable providers, you can expect a large array of shows including Ryan Murphy’s brilliant anthology series The Assassination of Gianni Versace, The Alienist, The Resident, 9-1-1, Black Lightning, The Chi, Good Girls, and Grown-ish. Now most people have transitioned to Netflix and Hulu for the cheaper prices and lack of commercials. For Netflix watchers they can expect Altered Carbon, Everything Sucks, Queer Eye For The Straight Guy, Lost In Space, Seven Seconds, On My Block, as well as the new seasons of popular shows like Jessica Jones, One Day At A Time, Stranger Things and many more. And if you are a Hulu watcher shows like The Looming Tower, The Handmaid’s Tale, The Path, Marvel’s The Runaways should be on your line up really soon.
Despite the quality of most of these shows, it can be really hard to pick a show and commit. Thanks to Netflix and Hulu the norm is to binge watch until our hearts content, and that can be really difficult if some of your new shows are on cable. But how do people pick their shows? What do they look for? Would they recommend it to a friend? Is Netflix truly better than Cable? “I mostly use Netflix, because it has no commercials,” says Jasmine Montgomery, a junior who has already started watching Altered Carbon and actually recommends it to Netflix users.
But it can't be just Netflix users that think Netflix is superior, so a regular cable user shared his thoughts as well. “I watch Power and Stranger Things. I mostly use Netflix, but cable is a strong second,” says Khalil Phillips, a senior who loves Power.
The shows keep on coming and it’s getting harder and harder to keep up with them. With Netflix and Hulu gaining so much momentum, I guess cable providers are trying to step up their game.(Thank you, NBC for This Is Us.) Well whether it is on Netflix, Hulu, or cable, I'm looking forward to what 2018 television has to offer.
