Trump vs. Biden Debate
By Mia Wright
As President Trumps' first term as president comes to an end, 2020 could not become more controversial, even if it wanted to. On September 29th the first out of three debates were held. Donald Trump and Joe Biden had 90 minutes to give the American people answers. Although, what was aired live on national tv, had a lot of people wondering if it was the presidential debate or reality tv.
As the debate started we could see that tensions were high. Months of controversy and different points of view, finally sitting in one space talking to all of the American people. While our expectations were not all that great, the American people were not prepared for those 90 minutes. 90 minutes is pretty long and Arale Mauricio, a junior at Kell Highschool, says, "I watched for about 40 minutes.". While Grace Rudd, a junior, explains, "I watched the entire debate from start to finish because I wanted to see if it got any better towards the end." The debate consists of a moderator who asks questions and keeps track of time, that man is Chris Wallace. A lot happened throughout the 90 minutes, on being that Trump interrupted Biden or Wallace 128 times. Grace Rudd describes it as, "disgusting and not presidential one bit". The moderator Chris, also told Trump to let Biden talk 26 times. As the debate went on Trump proceeded to call out Joe Biden’s family and their struggles, including his son's past drug addiction. Arale Mauricio adds that "It was really highly inappropriate but Joe handled it well. I feel like Trump did not have the right to do that. " Donald Trump continued to interrupt, which lead to Joe Biden calling him a clown on national television. Aidan Boyle, a junior soccer player at Hillgrove Highschool says that "I enjoyed it" when it occurred.
While the debate was a mess, Arale Mauricio thinks when it comes to voting, "I feel like it should be evident at that point. I feel like the logical thing would be to just vote for joe just because I knew he wasn’t getting everything out because he kept getting cut off by Trump. Trump is impulsive." Others like Adian Boyles explains the debate as, "Not helpful". While the internet got memes out of the situation, our future will still look back at this debate and learn. Grace Rudd plans on describing the debate as, "this is a poor example of how the debate should be held. They acted like children."
This month is voting month and every vote counts. While only some of us can vote it's important to research and educate yourself. Although, the debate may be long, watching it is not hard. Use your voice and speak your opinion.
