Every year before the season of track starts. Conditioning is held starting at the end of August all the way up until sometime in December. This conditioning is also known as the “pre-season”.
The Conditioning helps newcomers get comfortable with the sport and really know if they want to continue with the sport, or simply to get in shape. Coach Ironside, the head coach, explained that she feels that, “conditioning is a great way to help anybody interested in the sport and also to help the oldies get in shape for the track season.” She also stated that “The pre-season is where the greatest strength gains are made.” Conditioning is a benefit to most people for any sport in general. It sounds like a great opportunity for a lot of kids around the school.
Anisa Williams, an active participant on the track team, exclaimed “last year during conditioning, she felt herself getting stronger and more of her goals were reached during the track season.” It seems very helpful, and a great way to stay active. Many people go to the conditioning, and all grade levels participate.
The “pre-season” is crucial to your performances on the track. This is the time overall where you are training and getting ready for the season. Strength and conditioning are the foundation of any athletic program. To perform at an optimal level for sustained periods, it is necessary for the athlete to maintain proper nutritional habits and develop consistent year-round workout routines. Track is not the only sport that includes conditioning, and some may argue is the hardest of all sports. There are a lot of opinions on the conditioning, but for track it plays a very significant role to get better and meet new goals.
