Students and Their Movies

Movies are essential in a teenager's life. Some, of course are better than others. Some students' top movies include Infinity War, Point Break, A Star is Born, The Help, The Conjuring, Captain America: Winter Soldier, The Punisher, The Dark Knight, and She’s a Man. Morgan Haynes says, “I’m more drawn to scary movies and action movies just because I like the suspense or the drama.” She also says that she likes to see action because they are more entertaining and while sad movies are good, she does not like them as much because there is not as much going on.
Movies can have those special qualities that make you want to keep watching them. Kyla Clark, who is also a sophomore says, “I like seeing really hot actors, I usually don’t want to watch a movie is it doesn’t have a hot guy in it.” For her if there are ugly actors in a movie and if there is a bad plot, she automatically does not like the movie. Kyla also hates when movies are too unrealistic, especially in romance movies. Macy Griffith specifically adds that if Scarlett Johansson is featured in a movie that she is watching, she will not like the movie anymore because Scarlett will always get the “pretty boy.”
When dealing with more popular and less popular actors, Macy likes having both featured in movies. She says, “I feel like both. I like when a smaller actor gets publicity off of a bigger movie, but I also like when a bigger actor is in a movie because it gets advertised more.” Kyla adds, “I think that I like smaller actors because if they are really cute and a good actor then yeah, I like seeing new actors. And then with bigger stars I feel like when they are in a movie, they make it better.”
Cliffhangers can either frustrate the audience or leave them really excited for the next movie to come out in the series. When asked her opinion on whether she likes cliffhangers or would rather a movie with a straight ending, Morgan says, “I like movies with cliffhangers because if it’s a series, you want to know what happens next. But I also don’t like cliffhangers because in movies like the Harry Potter series, they don`t have cliffhangers, but they still flow together and are still good.” Macy agrees but also adds, “I like cliffhangers because if you know there are going to be other movies, you want cliffhangers to move you on into the next movie and they also make you talk about the ending and what could happen.”
Overall, movies are a huge part of people’s lives. From Marvel movies to the classic “romcom,” to even sci-fi. Movies reflect people’s personalities and the students are picky when it comes to what they want to see.
