March means many things to many people, but for college basketball fans it means one thing: March Madness. Colleges across America compete to get their teams into the Sweet 16, Final 4, and then go on and win the championship. People know where teams stand, thanks to the bracket. The NCAA bracket is a tool used to figure out where teams are going by tracking their success during games (wins, losses, etc).
Each season of March Madness comes with upsets and this season is no different. Currently the Top 5 teams are Virginia, Villanova, Xavier, Kansas, and Michigan State. Followed by Cincinnati, University of Michigan, Gonzaga, Duke, and University of North Carolina which rounds up the Top 10. Xavier University would be closer to number one had they not lost at the last minute to Florida State Sunday night. Which was good for Florida, who suffered defeat at the hands of Xavier University just last year. Florida’s Terrence Mann said, “It feels like sweet revenge.”
Cincinnati also took a loss when Nevada State came back at the last 11 minutes on Tuesday Night, catching up and closing on a 22 point lead. Nevada State Coach Eric Musselman even said, “That locker room right now, I’ve never seen anything like it in my life. It’s the happiest I’ve ever been in my life.” That makes Nevada one of the greatest comeback teams of this season.
Then there is North Carolina, who got kicked out of the running after losing to Texas A&M, who dominated throughout the entire game. Thanks to Texas A&M freshman T.J Starks, who scored 21 points and just started this past January. Finally there’s Loyola University who is having a successful season and slowly becoming the Cinderella team after having a last second win over Tennessee.
As it stands any team that’s still in the running has a chance of making it to the Sweet 16. However the Final 4, that’s a different story altogether. Some teams are going to have to step up their game if they want to be a part of the fearsome foursome that makes it the the final rounds. Good luck to the teams.
