Much of the world today consist of chaos and confusion. As the world ages, so do the child adolescents of the world. Adolescents observe the world around them, all the time, every day. Throughout the realm of society, media, news, and other people, deeply affect adolescents from the action they see online. When seeing this, adolescents have an urge to grow up and live a life of fun and exploration. Little do they know…it surely does not work like that. When this generation, Gen Z, were young, there was as well the urge and want to grow up, get money and live in a big house, but now, all grown up, gen Z wants their childhood back. The same thing happens with adolescents today, they want to grow up quickly and pursue a life, but late generations know, they won’t want adulthood for long.
When adolescents continue to age and hit the stages of behavior complications, that’s when things get a bit complicated. Even though, some adolescent parents try and display a decent form of mannerism and respect, adolescents still have the phase of treachery. Freshman Noel Wright speaks her thoughts of adolescent behavior by saying, “they're growing up and don't fully understand respect and manners in the real world. They may feel like they're always getting craped on by parents and other adults”. Adolescents really don’t know what going on with them, so most may try to act more adult than their age displays, however, because they don’t know how to respectfully act, it comes off in a rude and disrespectful toward other people. Along with behavioral complications, comes with mental health illness’. Most adolescents these days suffer from anxiety and depression as they continue to grow older. Noel express, “Phones I would think are a main contribution to anxiety and depression because everyone is trying to be like everyone else and being trapped too long in that mindset leads to anxiety thinking that no one likes you and as well depression thinking that you could never be as pretty or as smart as that person and stuff like that”. Consistently scrolling through social media, significantly impacts the way adolescents think and feel, leading them to a mindset of isolation.
Along the adolescent years, comes with wanting to be along with a specific group in and outside of school. Adolescents feel the need to “fit-in” with a specific crowd to be liked, although, this mindset does affect the growth of development of adolescents. Junior Savannah Corbin believes, “I think cliques and stuff can affect them because I think that majority of adolescents want to be a part of the popular group and do popular things to make them liked, so if an adolescent tries so hard to be a part of that group and is not accepted, then those effects how they fell about themselves”. A good ratio of adolescents strive on the idea of being in a popular group will give them more credit. However, tagging along with a group just for a false benefit that they created, will lead down a dark mental health spiral. Adolescents go through school initially thinking an education and some type of in-person school experience will grow them into accountable adults. Unfortunately, there are difference of opinions when it comes to people’s feelings about school. Savannah says, “I don’t think school helps that much because school does cause a lot of stress which is a big thing on their mental health, so I think that school puts more stress on the students than it does help them develop”. Behavior and mental health are big factors in the way an adolescent grows up. Anything and everything affects adolescents in ways that adults would not understand, so keeping media and stress level down in this youthful stage will impact greatly on them in the future.
The world has created a false reality of adolescents. Many believe the world is consisted of cliques and groups that separate the society, and they will need to find their place in one. Social media and the general population lead adolescents on to think the world is not so hard and is pretty much a big playground. On the contrary, society consists of needed life skills and sometimes, not so nice people.
