Students all over the world listen to music and have different interests and feelings about music, there are many genres of music that captivate people anywhere from K-pop to Country music. Music has been in most cultures across the world since the beginning of time creating a musical interest and preference in people from the very beginning. So, what would happen if we lived in a world without music? Would people live freely, would they be able to express themselves? These are parts of society that shape our world.
“I feel like the world would fall apart if people weren’t able to express themselves creatively through music or any artistic outlet for that matter” (Areiya Forest Junior at Hillgrove). Teens are known to express themselves though their music taste whether it is calming music or hard rock, the lyrics and melody create a mixture of emotions and compelling sounds that people can understand and relate to.
“My favorite genre of music is R and B/soul, because this genre is not repetitive, and it embodies many different things” (Shani Lofton Junior at Hillgrove).
Listening to music while in school or while studying has been proved to be immensely helpful to students, staying focused is a major thing for students and music has been an outlet for that for many. “Listening to music makes me feel very motivated and peaceful” (Shani Lofton Junior at Hillgrove). Another important part of being a student is keeping a healthy mindset and being able to overcome the high and low points of high school life. While many may not know this but listening to music greatly reduces feelings of stress and anxiety,

Essentially, music is a major basis of creative outlets for teens and students alike. The way we communicate through word of mouth and song affects the world we live in as it has for millennia. These songs that help us now will be passed down over time and affect future generations. As we express ourselves and feelings through artistic ways we create new modes of interaction and expression for people who need outlets for their feelings which creates safe environments for everyone.
