The movie all the fans have been waiting for has finally arrived. The Five Nights at Freddy’s movie. The first Five Nights at Freddy’s game was released on august 8th 2014, and since then this movie has been one of the most popular horror games there is. The game comes with a storyline, many characters, and a lot of horror.
Grace Salley, a sophomore at Hillgrove, Favors Foxy, because he’s “cool, fast, and awesome.” There has been a wide range of ratings for this movie, given how worldwide this game is, "A 6.5-7 out of ten because I feel like it was good, but I wish it was rated r to add to the horror factor of the game" (Grace). As we know, the Five Nights at Freddy’s games are known for how terrifying they are, but this movie was only rated PG-13 and did not include much gore. "The movie would've been 100 times better with gore because it would've portrayed better to the games with how much brutality was in them" (Grace). One common complaint of this movie seems to be the disconnect between the game storyline and the movie storyline. "If I had to change the movie I'd make the movie longer, rated r, lots more gore, and portray to the storyline that most people know/make it closer to the game, Vanessa is NOT an Afton" (Grace).
For someone who doesn’t know much about the games but watched the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie, they rated the film higher. Catheline Evans, the parent of a Hillgrove student, rated the movie an 8/10. "I would rate it an 8/10 because it wasn’t really as scary as I thought but still a good storyline.” Her favorite animatronic in the film was Chica because “she’s super cute.” She may not know much about the franchise, but she sure does have strong opinions, especially on the characters. "I kind of think Abby did too much, but she is still a kid so I can't be to upset at her. She was just way too trusting of the unknown" (Catheline). While there wasn’t much horror in the film, there was some suspense. "When Abby was hiding from foxy, that scene had the most suspense" (Catheline).
Zaleah Milliken, a freshman and Hiram High, favorites Bonnie because “he’s cool like that” and rates the movie a 6/10 "I would rate it a 6/10 because it was kind of entertaining and it kind of went with the actual lore, but other than that it was all over the place" As mentioned before, the movie did add its own twists too it that wasn’t a part of the original storyline which was a common subject talked about with the movie "I think It was nice that they kept some of the lore and some iconic moments from the games but other than that they derailed from the original lore" (Zaleah). But something that was cool about this movie was they gave youtubers who played the game, a role in the movie, which was unexpected. "I feel like adding the youtubers definitely added extra easter eggs here and there for fans to enjoy" (Zaleah).
Overall, this movie was so highly anticipated, and a lot of fans were super happy of the results regardless of the story changes and it not being scary or gory enough. Five nights at Freddy’s has made such an impact on a lot of people.
