Video games are definitely a common pastime for many of us. Whether it's the thrill of a shooter or the immersiveness of an RPG, there is no better place to look for fun than a game. Former Hillgrove student Devon Witkowski explained that for him, video games “are a way to escape from Earth for a bit and be someone else, somewhere else.” Throughout March, many great games bursted onto the shelves, and here are three that definitely deserve a spot in your library.
After being delayed several times, Ni No Kuni II finally arrived to please many fans of RPGs and anime. The sequel to the 2011 masterpiece Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, the game combines a charming story with fantastic game play taking liberties from other games like Kingdom Hearts and Pokémon. Adding to the enjoyment is the absolutely gorgeous art style designed by the folks at Studio Ghibli, the same people behind the anime classics My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away. If you get a chance, definitely pick up this underrated gem.
Gamers also got to experience the life of a pirate with Sea of Thieves. This swashbuckling epic made by RARE (the studio behind games like Banjo Kazooie and Conker’s Bad Fur Day) gives players a chance to simulate their fantasies of being a pirate and play with their friends in a completely immersive and highly detailed experience. If a pirate’s life is the life for you, this game is certainly worth it. Just be sure to maybe wait a while to make your purchase as many have pointed out that the game is in an uneven and repetitive state at the moment.
However, the crowning jewel of March’s releases is definitely Ubisoft’s Far Cry 5. The fifth installment in the acclaimed first-person shooter franchise, FC5 brings players to rural Montana to stop a savage cult leader along with fishing, shooting and looting any enemies in your path, and exploring the countryside with your dog companion. Not only are the graphics breathtaking, but the game play is so addicting that it will leave you on your couch for hours. Daemon Hatfield of IGN gave it an 8.9/10 and said, “Amidst all the insanity it manages to tell a serious story with respectable characters and a powerful ending…” (taken from IGN.com). If you are looking for something to keep you distracted for a few weeks, any of these three games are easily worth the purchase price.
