Stars Wars: Rise of Skywalker, will be the final Star Wars movie to premiere in theaters. Starting out in 1977, George Lucas, is ending it all, while working alongside Disney with Star Wars’ ninth movie.
The Star Wars franchise is a whole different world. Star Wars has allowed many fans to escape from the outside world and come into a fictional universe of going through hyperdrive and light saber fights between Jedis and The Dark Side. Due to Star Wars’ large gap of continuing the story, fans of all ages, from all over the world, can come together to share their same interests. A sophomore at Hillgrove, Tristan Hurst, explains what he likes about Star Wars, “I like the extended universe before Disney kinda wiped it all out, but I like a lot of the, war behind it and the different aspects of it.”
Sophomore, Logan Harper, said, “I don't know, it’s like, its own world and you know, like space and aliens and like, light sabers and the air, the force, big dogs, and robots.”
When asked the question, if he was upset that Rise of Skywalker is the last movie, a ninth grader, Thomas Chambless, stated, “Yeah, I thought they were just gonna keep going because you can only keep adding a new villain. If they kept going backwards, you can keep going forward.”
The franchise has made many phenomenal movies with many diverse and iconic characters that fans still talk about to this day. Chambless said, “Anakin Skywalker, I know this sounds kinda weird because everybody is like, ‘he betrayed everybody!’ but I don't know [I’ve] just always [liked him] from the beginning.”
Hurst discussed, “Bobba Fett, probably, because I read the book on his entire back story and it comes to light that he’s a clone and that he grew up on a planet with his father who is, who is cloned from called Jango fett and has a very long and extended story that was cut out.”
Like many films that Disney and Lucasfilm made, there have also been television shows relating to the franchise. The newest Star Wars show is called The Mandalorian and airs on Disney Plus. The Mandalorian is about a bounty hunter’s journey after the fall of the Empire. The series so far has been a success, and the most recognized character is Baby Yoda.
Harper discussed, “Disney was really smart [with] making the character since they've been like blowing up the Internet with it, and they're going to make a crap ton of money off Baby Yoda.”
Hurst said, “He’s on the same level as the gremlins before they became gremlins.”
Although Rise of Skywalker is ending the franchise, Star Wars will be talked about as much as when Star Wars: A New Hope came out.
