We Have Spirit, How 'Bout You?

School spirit is a lot like faith, you either have it or you don't. It is taking time to support your school's integrity and believing that school spirit is a reflection of yourself. School spirit comes from the students that have it, without students that believe in supporting their school through all of its trials, school spirit could not exist. It is what drives people to dress up and go to all the games even if it is not football. Students who play sports take pride in making it known but those who do not, walk around oblivious to the fact that their team is even playing. There are many ways of showing school spirit other than sports, you just have to figure out what works best for you.
Some of the things you can do to show school spirit is to wear your school colors, watch school performances and plays, go to club-sponsored events, cheer on competitive teams, get involved on campus, take advantage of free stuff, volunteer, and the most important is to have the right attitude.
School spirit differs from place to place because of the students. It has to come from the heart, and if the heart is not there, neither is the school spirit. Many students, like sophomore Jada Drake, love to dress up and she attends all the games. “I love dressing up on Fridays and going to the games it makes me really happy and puts everyone in a good mood.” Many students love dressing up and going to all the games but it all comes down to who puts in effort.
This year we have what is called a ‘spirit stick’. Whichever grade level has the most spirit that week and dresses according to the theme gets points. If you get enough points, then you get the spirit stick. The first couple weeks, seniors had been winning. However, this past week sophomores won. Freshmen, like David Stretch, wants their grade to win. “I love participating in spirit week but most of my grade don’t partake.” Seniors and sophomores are on the leaderboard, but it all depends who wants it the most.
It does not matter if you are a freshman or a senior your school should be something you want to show off and be proud of. Start dressing up and, going to the games; and do not just do it for yourself do it for your grade and for your school.
