The Fall of Simon Cowell

Simon Cowell is the Executive Producer of the show, America's Got Talent. Recently, many articles have shown what really goes behind the scenes. Gabrielle Union has departed as a judge after she raised concerns about discriminatory culture on the show. Union urged the producers to report an offensive joke made on national television. It was thought to show stereotypical actions about Asians eating dog meat. Also Union has reported many times that the producers restricted her from wearing certain hair styles because it looked to black.
Union was really upset about Cowell not fulfilling her request and even had a talk with him about the situation. Cowell was even caught smoking in doors while the judges were getting ready. Furthermore, Cowell is now under investigation for his actions and he is probed for toxic culture after racism claims.
High school senior, Surrena Griggs, is not surprised about the actions of Cowell. She said, “I’m not surprised that he was exposed because with a celebrity like him and the kind of reputation he holds, his actions were bound to come to light.” High schooler, Camryn Brown, felt that she would feel the same as Union if she was put into the same situation. She stated, “I would feel very patronised and hurt, and definitely would speak out as she has done. In the times that I have experienced racism/sexism (and as a white female I am very aware that I am at the tip of the pyramid of injustice and would like to acknowledge that), but in those times I have felt disempowered and unimportant.” She later explained why she believes people stay quiet about these kinds of actions. She felt, “I think that many of them are staying quiet because they don't want to attract negative attention/possibly face charges of lawsuit, however, I do feel that they are obligated to at least release a statement or show support for Gabi.” Cowell’s actions definitely made him lose supporters, Griggs explained why she felt this way. She said, “I think he has less people who like him. If not much has changed in the audience’s eyes, then Simon just did something that everyone will remember.” A high schooler named, Dylan Sanders, believes Cowell was in the wrong. She said, “Clearly, Simon is the guilty one by ruining careers of so many singers, and making the members of the group work constantly.” She later explained on how he showed his true colors towards former and present groups. “He just showed his true colors by not being supportive towards his band’s members and by taking advantage of his 3 bands he created (Little mix, Fifth Harmony and One Direction).” Although Cowell will lose fans, Brown believes his wealth will help him in the long run. She explained, “Unfortunately, due to his wealth, status, and power, I don't think much will come of it. Yes, he may lose some support, but in the long run it won't matter because he still has this huge empire he has built for himself and has more than enough money to get extremely good lawyers if this situation goes in that direction. He also has enough power and wealth to pay hush money to other victims of his actions, or any witnesses.” Cowell is a powerful man who puts money and power before anything else.
His actions towards Union and her beliefs will never go unnoticed. Even though the investigation is still going on, this could lead to the fall of Cowell.
