Sex and the City aired for six seasons from 1998 to 2004. Fans got 94 episodes and two movies following Carrie Bradshaw and her friends Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda through their dating life and unbreakable friendship. Now it has been announced that Sex and the City fans will get a reboot of the series on HBO Max. Although it will be a limited series, Sex and the City fans are still thrilled to see their favorite friend group take on New York again.
A huge concern with the reboot is which one of the cast members is coming back, and how it will change if they do not come back. So far, Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis are confirmed to be coming back to the reboot. It disappointed fans to learn that Kim Cattrall will not be rejoining the cast. Chris North, who played Carrie’s love interest, Mr. Big has not confirmed or denied being in the cast for the reboot.
Some fans speculate that Kim Cattrall will not be taking part in the reboot because of the alleged feud. Allegedly, the quarrel started over Sarah’s salary raise. When Sarah was promoted to executive producer, Kim tried to negotiate a higher salary, and it progressed from there. Crew members reported Kim sitting separate from everyone, and Kim and Sarah not talking during the filming of Sex and the City 2.
The two are often asked about the feud and Sarah Jessica Parker responds, “No. I don’t dislike her. I’ve never said that. Never would. Samantha isn’t part of this story. But she will always be a part of us. No matter where we are or what we do.” When Kim Cattrall was asked about the matter, she stated that she has “never been friends” with her costars and suggests they have a healthy work relationship. In 2018, Kim was grieving the death of her brother, and when Sarah reached out to express her condolences, Kim countered with “I don’t need your love and support at this tragic time, Your continuous reaching out is a painful reminder of how cruel you really were then and now. Let me make this VERY clear. (If I haven’t already) You are not my family. You are not my friend. So I’m writing to tell you one last time to stop exploiting our tragedy in order to restore your ‘nice girl’ persona.” Sarah did not reply to Kim after this and claimed there was no fight.
So far what is known is who will come back, and how they will cover topics such as COVID-19. Ruth Hodges, a fan of the show, states that, “I’m excited to feel the nostalgia of a show I remember from the early 2000s set in modern times.” Changes will also take place with the production team; they promise to provide more diversity in the writer’s room that was lacking in the initial production of the series.
