Selena Quintanilla-Pérez Story

Selena was a singer, actor, model, and songwriter. She was born on April 16,1971 in Lake Jackson, Texas. She had won a Grammy and her music was blowing up everywhere when she tragically lost her life due to gun violence. Her father was also a musician so he managed Selena's career. She grew up speaking English but her father taught her how to sing in Spanish so she could connect to her Latin roots.
Connor Jackson, freshman at Walton high school says, “I heard that she was a fashion model from my girlfriend and she really loved her.” Many people did not know that she did much more than just music. She was a role model for many. She even went around and talked to kids at school because she had to be homeschooled and wanted to talk to kids that got what she did not. According to Connor Jackson, “Yeah I mean she sounds like she worked hard and made it and that was taken away from her.” She made it so big she became known as the Queen or Tejano. She was also the first Tejano to win a Grammy. Her birthday is also now an informal holiday in Texas.
Sofie Alonzo, sophomore at Hillgrove said, “I love a lot of her songs but my favorite was probably tu solo tu.” This song along with many others made it to the top of the charts. The last recorded song of hers came out a few years after her passing in 2004. It was called Puede Ser. Alonzo says, “Yeah I’m probably going to watch with my mom she loved her to.” Selena had many movies and television shows made about her. Some have even made it to Netflix. According to Sofie Alonzo, “ I think she has big shoes to fill but will do a good job becoming like Selena.” Jeniffer Lopez plays Selena in the new Netflix series.
Lea Wallace, manager at Truist says, “Yes I went on a date with a man that was the same age as my father when I was 25 and he was 45” Selena’s father did not like her boyfriend, so they kept it a secret and then got married without anyone knowing. Lea also said, “Honestly no but I think that was really cool to learn about her.” Selena’s parents thought she was going to be a boy so they did not pick a girls name. The woman next to them picked a girl's name but had a boy so she shared her name with Selena’s mom.
Selena was an inspiration to many. She made such a mark in the short time she was here. While she was here she touched so many people and changed lives with her music.. She will forever and greatly be missed.
