The SEC Championship Game between Alabama and Georgia was held last weekend on December 1st. The game took place at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. The final score was 35-28, Alabama walking away with another win. Georgia was ranked fourth, but after losing they are now ranked fifth with an 11-2 record. Alabama is still ranked first, with a 13-0 record.
Erika Garcia, a senior at North Cobb Christian School, wanted Alabama to win the SEC Championship. She wanted them to win since, “that is where I’m going to college next year. My family has always pulled for Notre Dame and UGA, so there was some dispute between us all in regards to this game.” She does not think that Alabama was intimidated by playing in Mercedes-Benz Stadium, she thinks that, “it only motivated them and challenged them to play harder. I don’t think that they thought UGA would fight that hard, so once they started having a stronger offense and defense, it seemed like a greater obstacle for Alabama.” She thinks that Georgia should have been selected for the College Football Playoff because they, “have had a great season and truly improved offensively and defensively. They had some difficult competition and they continuously pulled through.”
When asked if she thinks that Alabama’s success is due to Nick Saban or Tua Tagovailoa, she said, “I think that Alabama’s success is due to both, however it’s not just the both of them. All of the offensive and defensive players work together to bring about victory. Saban has obviously had numerous amounts of success based on the multiple National Championships received, but primarily because of his coaching techniques. The players spend hours working out and practicing so it doesn’t matter if you’re the quarterback, defensive line, center, safety, wide receiver, every player is a major part in the success of Alabama.” She thinks that Alabama has stayed ranked number one because, “they work together as a team. It’s not individuals trying to outdo one another, but actually working and staying together as a unit. They come in with positive mind sets and don’t let challenge face them or intimidate them. They go down as a team or go up, but clearly by the rankings, they’ve definitely stayed way up.” Erika “really wasn’t expecting the score to be what it is. Most people came into the game expecting Alabama to destroy, but UGA definitely worked Bama up and down the field, it was incredible!”
Antonio Delucca, senior at Kennesaw Mountain High School, wanted Georgia to win the championship game. He says that, “Alabama had the better offense, but Georgia had the better defense.” When asked how Jake Fromm, Justin Fields, and Tua Tagovailoa compared throughout the game, he said, “Justin should’ve played more than one down, Tua didn’t play his best since he got injured early on, and Jake had a decent game.” Overall, both teams played a really good game and showed fans how strong they are.
