Rihanna is extremely well known for her brands like Savage X Fenty, Fenty Beauty, and her fashion house, Fenty. Both the fashion industry and her fans, the “Rihanna Navy,” were rocked with unexpected news. On February 10, 2021, it was announced that Fenty would be suspended indefinitely. Fans like Ileana wonder, “Why would they shut it down? I thought the brand was popular.” With the lack of information provided by the LVMH group, this seems like the end of an era that was just beginning. Despite the harsh wording, this business move is not the end of the brand, it is a break while they wait for better conditions to continue. When Coronavirus hit, the world had to swiftly adapt to a new way of life with social distancing and working from home. Fenty is a European brand, and with the new and strict restrictions, Rihanna feels she cannot be hands-on with her creations. Her other companies will not be negatively affected by the break. The funding for Fenty will be put into them. With this extra funding, Savage X Fenty is expected to expand into activewear in the near future.
A crucial reason for her success so far was her superstar status before launching her companies. Prior to becoming an entrepreneur, Rihanna was titled “best-selling digital artist of all time with over 100 million gold and platinum songs.” She has won 9 GRAMMYs. Another reason for her tremendous success is her constant strive to be all-inclusive, unlike a number of other brands in the skincare and lingerie industry. Yasi, a student interested in Textile design praises Fenty, saying, “I like Rihanna’s companies because she shows people who look like me.” In her fashion shows and other marketing campaigns, they advertise everyday people with a range of body types and skin tones. Rihanna gave consumers much-needed representation that has contributed to her prosperity.
Her fashion house, Fenty, is a part of the LVMH group along with Céline, Emilio Pucci, and Sephora. History wise, Fenty takes the title of the first black woman to be the head of a fashion house. Fenty was also the most recent brand launched by LVMH since 1987. The initial launch was on May 22, 2019, in a pop-up shop in Paris, then in New York. Soon after, the line was available to the public in its online store. The public has been following Fenty for the last two years and has become iconic collaborations like Fenty X Puma. With this abrupt shift, avid followers of Fenty can only wait for Corona to end so Rihanna can get back to Europe to oversee another launch.
