How Students Feel About Pep Rallies

Most students love everything that goes on in pep rallies. Pep rallies get people hype about going to school, but some student at Hillgrove High school seem to disagree. Most students I asked said it was just okay and it was “nothing special”. Pep rallies are used to get the students hype and excited about going to school. It is also used as a break time to allow the students to take a break from working on their work. There are many different things that went on during the pep rally like the dance team and step team performances, there was a student against teacher basketball game, and a half court shot competition. Some students say they enjoyed the step team performance, but the dance team is ahead because of their energy and “it looks more organized,” says Jayla Bridges. Jordan Lowther says “ The dance teams performance was kinda short and I got bored fast.”
One thing that everyone can agree on was that their class spirit was not there. “In order for pep rallies to be fun everyone in our class needs to participate and only like half the class did, it gets annoying sometimes because I actually want our class to win the spirit stick.”, says Kenley Benton. Amiyah Franklin agreed with her by saying, Our class is so dead and it's not even that fun when they act like they don't wanna be there” When asked if something needed to be added to the pep rally to make it better, Jayla Bridges responded by saying, “If there was more crowd participation instead of the students just watching everything, like there should be some carnival activities added or maybe food because sometimes I just be getting bored.”
Students think that there should be more student participation for girls because “most of what they play is stuff only boys would do, they should give girls an option to play different activities instead of just the boys” When asked what they thought about the student againt teacher game, Talon Doyle said the game “kinda got boring after a while, I feel like it is something the boys would only get hype about because all my friends were just standing there acting unentertained.” Jayla Bridges agrees and said, “The student v.s. teacher game was hype for most of the time, most students didn’t really seem excited about it or acted like they really cared about it.” Everyone agrees food should be added to make the pep rally better. Pep rallies make students excuses to go to school and some students can not wait to see what is awaiting for them when they get there.
