Bombs Sent to Democrats

October 16th, marked the beginning of a series of bombs sent to democrats by a radical pro-Trump supporter.
A total of 14 pipe bombs were sent to anti-trump public figures. This includes politicians such as Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton and oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro. The first package arrived in New York, designated for George Soros, a billionaire philanthropist who is known for his criticism of Trump. Soros has been a target by right-wing conspiracy theorist for a while, according to authorities. Luckily, a security officer became suspicious of the package and did not allow the package to be sent. He put the package in a wood-covered area and alerted the FBI as well as the Bureau of Explosives. Even though the packages did not explode, the bombs were not hoax devices. The bombs were described by officials as “short length, small pipes with powder.” All the bombs were sent from the same location. The last package was sent to CNN headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia where authorities intercepted the package and began tracking the package back to its source. Maya Young, an Atlanta native, was terrified after the event describing it as a “wake up call for her home town.”
Cesar Sayoc, 56, a Florida resident, was arrested for sending the bombs. It appears that he worked alone but the FBI is suspicious if Sayoc was a part of a larger group. Although he has not stated his motivation for the crime, his social media, court records and friends helped identify him. Sayoc owns a white van that is covered with stickers that say “Make America Great Again” and “CNN Sucks.” More surprisingly, Michael Moore, captured Sayoc in the Fahrenheit 11/9 documentary at a Trump rally probably holding a sign with the same phrases. A colleague said that Sayoc talked about “politics non-stop” and constantly expressed his hatred for the Obamas. After Trump’s election, Kayla Johnson carefully watches Trump supporters and “looks out for for anyone with a MAGA hat.”
The bomber’s purpose is unclear. One aspect of his motivation we can identify was to spread fear. He wanted to terrorize a group of people and stop them from taking action against him. Sayoc has failed. The Obamas, the Clintons and all the other democrats that were targeted are safe and sound. They are hopeful and urging the American public to vote so men like Sayoc will not feel powerful anymore.
