On My Block is a Netflix show that first aired on March 16th, 2018. The co-creators of the show are Lauren Lungerich, Eddie Gonzalez, and Jeremy Haft. The show now has three seasons. The newest season, season three, aired on Wednesday, March 11th, 2020. Season two had left off with a cliffhanger where the four main characters were kidnapped: Monse, Jamal, Caesar, and Ruby.
A lot of people were excited for the return of On My Block, and it was a great day for it to air, because Hillgrove had a half day. Diyontae Dallas says, “I was excited for the return of On My Block, because it left us with unanswered questions and a huge cliffhanger.” Throughout the third season, there were so many attributes that caught some of the viewer's eye and that many people could have an opinion on. “I really loved the music this season! I absolutely love ‘Friends’ by Laundry Day,” Jordan Bektemba says. There were even a few quotes that caught viewers attention, “Oh, I absolutely agree with Cuchillos and what she said. ‘Behind every great man there’s an even better woman,’ because you always see what the media puts out about what a great man did, but they never put out like what their wife or loved one who is a female who like supported them through the whole thing,” Arabella Kimpson says.
The plot this season gets a little deeper as Cuchillos, leader of the Santos gang, kidnapped the friend group to find her lost love, Lil Ricky. “I don’t think he is alive, and I feel like they are going to look for him [Lil Ricky] in season 4,” Bektemba says. This season has a lot of funny moments, like Jamal’s fear of getting bit by a zombie and Spooky’s fear of being possessed by a ghost. “[I agree more with] Spooky catching a ghost. I do think a person can sort of have a spirit embedded in them. It’s sort of weird but I do think you can be inhabited by a ghost,” Kimpson says. Even with the funny moments, there were sentimental moments and moments of growth, like Monse and Jasmine’s new friendship. “I think it’s [the friendship] is needed because Monse and Jasmine are the only two females left in the friend group so it’s good that they built a good relationship,” Dallas says.
The end of the season might have upset many people, with the split of the friend group. “No! I cried at the end of the season. I was really emotionally attached to the characters in this season. And when they split up, a little piece of my heart died,” Bektemba says. Overall, season three had many of their viewers happy, sad and mad and the viewers cannot wait to see what season four has in store.
