New Schedule, Who Dis?

With only nine weeks left of school it is time to register for your 2018-19 classes, unless you are senior ready to say goodbye. To register you must go to your previous teachers and receive stickers that permit you to the next class. The process seems simple but in reality creates stress to pick the right path and pressure to pick impressive and rigorous classes.
High school students are put under constant pressure to make decisions that will help their future and help get them into college. There is always a fear that you have made the wrong decision and will not be able to fix it. We discuss with our teachers, friends, and counselors but it all boils down to us making our own decisions whether they are wise or not.
Here at Hillgrove, students are anticipating the next school year and their new schedule. Some of the students expressed to me their opinion on the registration process.
Braxton Lee expressed how stressed out registration was for him: “I’m pretty distraught I would say. I don’t know if I should [take classes to] help my GPA or do [classes that deal with] what I wanna do in life.”
Lee also said, “I think it’s very important [to think about your class choices] because we have to start young in order to know what we’re doing in the future.”
Jayla Bibbs, an upcoming Hillgrove junior, spoke on why she chose to choose rigorous courses: “Definitely [challenged myself]. [It’ll be my] junior year. I think I chose a mix of interest and wanting to challenge myself. I was on the fence about taking AP Language and still am unsure if I should switch.”
An upcoming Hillgrove senior, Grace Tarnoff, said, “I was a little stressed out because I still have to take my third career pathway class. I guess I chose to challenge myself because I wanted to take more AP classes and to improve my GPA. I think it’s very important [for me to make good decisions] since next year will be my senior year and I have to get my grades up.”
All three students seemed at least a little stressed out due to classes determining your GPA, class rank, and where you can go to get a degree. It is always hard to choose between picking classes you will enjoy or classes that will boost your GPA. Whatever your decision is, be wise and think about the best option for your. Let us get excited for a new upcoming school year!
