Netflix is very popular in this time of society. Netflix was founded on August 29, 1997 in Scott's Valley, California. Marc Randolph and Reed Hastings are the founders of Netflix. Originally, Netflix was was used as a movie ordering service, like the movie ordering service Red Box. Netflix is now a streaming service for movies and t.v. series. They have three different plans that have a price range of 9-16 dollars. The different packages are basic, standard, and premium.
Netflix allows people to stream movies or t.v. series for 9-16 dollars a month. “Shows, because I usually don’t have a lot of time and I can’t finish a movie.” Carrie Hermida, a Hillgrove High School supply teacher, states. There are many shows and movies that viewers favor. “Either Stranger Things or On My Block. So Stranger Things, because of the depth that the show has and all the different like, umm, all of the different layers that play into the TV series or whatever,” Palmer Williams, a senior at Hillgrove High School, says. Hermida says, “The last show I watched was Friends, and it’s awesome and really funny and yeah.” Genesis Allah suggests, “It’s not new, but they recently put Victorious, they all the whole- the whole series on there. You should get into it.” Netflix also has a variety of categories ranging from family to horror. Williams says, “Sci-fi or thriller, because I just- because of the field I want to go into that’s more like the genre that I want to focus on. So, I kind of use it for like research purposes.” Allah’s favorite genre is, “umm, cartoon.”
Although Netflix has many great movies, t.v. series and genres, many say there are things Netflix can add to help improve and please their customers. “Do they have Ted on there? They need to put Ted, [and] Ted 2,” Allah says. Williams says,“Okay well, I would feel happier [if Netflix added more Disney] because I can revisit my childhood, so I feel like Netflix would get a lot more views if they like, put more, you know childhood, Netflix, like Disney movies on there and stuff.” Although Netflix has been putting more and more new movies and t.v. series on their streaming service, some are not favorable by viewers. “Wild Holiday, and it was a Rom com and it was terrible. Yeah, it was about like this girl that- she goes away and she falls in love with elephants. They like, made it sound like it was going to be like a Rom com but it really was just like [an] elephant enthusiast like to- for the protection of animals. I mean it was pretty good, but it wasn't, it wasn’t awesome. I was bummed.” Hermida says.
Overall, Netflix has made $15.8 Billion dollars in annual revenue, as of the year 2018.” Netflix may have some good additions and some bad additions, but their successes may outweigh their losses.
