Music Midtown took over the hearts of young people in the city of Atlanta this past weekend. The music festival that had everyone excited took place at Piedmont Park and lasted for two days. Prices ranged from $155 for general admission, to $1,250 for super VIP. What or who exactly could make people pay that much money for a music festival? Our Hillgrove students have the answers to these questions.
Some of the highlights at Music Midtown included the artists that performed over the weekend. Hillgrove senior, Terri Kamau said, “Post Malone, lots of water stations, and good food,” were some of the highlights of the music festival. “Kendrick Lamar because he is my favorite rapper ever and the whole atmosphere was amazing,” said Hillgrove sophomore, Rachel Williams. Unlike Terri and Rachel, for Hillgrove junior, Ava Wilhoit, all the highlights consisted of were, “just getting ready for it and being there for the experience was fun.”
Although there were some great memories created, recommendations were made about what could improve for next year’s festival. Rachel stated that, “there needs to be more trash cans and concerts of more artists performing there.” Terri suggested that the people who are in charge of Music Midtown need to, “make it more open to the public because I did not even know what it was last year.” Ava said, “maybe not as many people because it was so crowded and I waited in line for like an hour and a half for chicken fingers.”
When asked who was their favorite artists and why, there was variety of answers from the Hillgrove students but Post Malone, Kendrick Lamar and Khalid seemed to be the top preferences according to their answers. “Kendrick Lamar because he was amazing”, was Rachel’s response to her favorite artist that performed. Ava claimed that, “Khalid was my favorite because I was looking forward to him all weekend.” Terri ended up having multiple artists that she really enjoyed watching perform. “Post Malone, Kendrick Lamar and St. John were the most hype out of all the artists.”
Music Midtown allowed for Atlanta residents to have a good reason to stand out in the boiling heat of Georgia. Most importantly though, it have people a chance to see chart topping artists at the expense of a reasonable price. As always good music brought the city of Atlanta together and left its’ residents buzzing from excitement.
