Starting as small show in 1984, the MTV awards grew rapidly throughout the years celebrating artists success in their competitive industries by also letting them express who they are though outfits. Audiences from all over glaze at style and creativity to incorporate into their own preferences. Outfits are an attracting feature on the red carpet. The MTV awards challenge an artist’s ability to either take on a risky idea or play it safe. Audiences attending, as well as watching from home, get a personal sense about a person from their outfit and how they show it off, so constructing the perfect outfit is key. It’s more than reasonable to say the music and film industry is a competitive realm full of people that want to be remembered. With a combination of performance, style, and creativity, the MTV film and music awards inspire other singers along with other actresses/actors to express the creative side they keep hidden.

Taylor’s impact in society from influencing younger girls and guys, to people all over the world while essentially following her on this competitive journey of music, countless number of people believe, “she’s a good singer, has a really good style and generally seems like a cool person in all.” Sophomore Bassan Sissiko expresses. A previous iconic look in Taylor’s “Look What You Made Me Do” music video, made its way back onto the red carpet displaying its originality to her past realm of music. Every year, audiences see Taylor express herself with a style that shows how she wants to be remembered that night. Bassan shares, “She probably chose it to show that she’s confident in her decisions and she might have wanted more people to see it.” In the difficult decision to either take a risky route or a safe one, it can be assumed that Taylor has more than one side to who she appears to be. The lyrics in her music does not only speak to one crowd. “There’s something for everyone” Bassan shares, “It’s definitely different because she always pops out with a different type of genre in a way. It's the same sort of theme but in a different font of singing if you know what I mean where it can relate to everyone”. Senior Kara Tickner says, “she could have worn something that showed more of her personality more, but she also could have felt confident enough to feel like she didn’t need to go all out on the red carpet”. Chole’s outfit had mixed opinions when it came to the internet vs. her fans. Some people may have thought she wore her outfit beautifully and pulled it off with no problem at all, while others may have though it maybe wasn’t the best thing to wear at MTV. “If it was created for some type of cause then that’s a different situation, but other than that I thought it wasn’t the best look to wear”, Kara explains. Styles come and go all throughout generations, but there was something about this one that may have turned people off, “It looks more like a puffer jacket, and I would assume that people don’t like that style anymore.” Kara states.
