“I have to leave...You. I have to leave you.” That is what Joel Maisel said to his wife of three years right before walking out on her and their two children. Telling her that he is having relations with his secretary (real original), is otherwise known as cheating for the past couple of months. Now, most people would have gone into a blind rage or try to stop him, but not Miriam (Midge) Maisel, all she noticed was that he was leaving her with her suitcase, that was all that mattered and that tomorrow was Yom Kippur. There is so much more to tell, but it will be left to the reader to find out the rest of the story.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is an Amazon Prime original created by Amy Sherman-Palladino and her husband Daniel Palladino. Mrs. Palladino was also the creator of the 2000’s hit sit-com Gilmore Girls, which starred Lauren Graham as Lorelai Gilmore and Alexis Bledel as Rory Gilmore. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel premiered in 2017 with one episode to test the waters and see if they could go ahead with the rest of the season.
The show is based in 1950’s New York and is about a housewife, who as previously stated, finds out that her husband is cheating on her and is leaving her for his secretary. This show is filled with comedy, even when it is the most serious of situations, such as when the mother dies and the two sisters decide to set her house on fire. Veronica Brown, a watcher of the show, states, “ It has humor and a very Broadway type-feel.” By that, she means that the timing of every punchline and witty comment is seamless and makes her feel as if she is watching a Broadway play, a play right in front of her.
That is enough with the explaining. The third season of The Marvelous Mrs.Maisel premiered on December 6th, about a week ago. Oscar Franklin, who is also a watcher of the show, says, “ I’m five episodes in on the third season. I tried to wait till I was sick to binge it, but I couldn’t wait. Now I’m just trying to not burn through all of them.” The third season is all about Midge touring with Shy Baldwin, a famous fictional singer during the time. It is mostly them going to multiple different cities such as Miami and Las Vegas. Then, Shy Baldwin gets injured, so they hit the pause button on the tour for two months. During that time, Midge is doing various radio commercials to stay afloat and possibly buy back her apartment from her ex-father-in-law. A little after that, tour is back on. Before they go to Europe, they perform at the Apollo in the last episode, “A Jewish Girl Walks Into The Apollo.” That is when Midge ends up getting fired right before the plane takes off because she said the phrase, “ Judy Garland Shoes” and a few other things that hit too close to home for Shy. The reason why will not be told by the author, so it is up to the reader to find out.
