High school is an important aspect of life for everyone and it’s a building block for anything you want to be in life. Life is full of rewards and punishments but do they really work in a learning environment? Says, Lenz Resendez “Rewards yes but, not punishments. You must figure out what's messing your student up and what's causing the fail instead of rewarding them or punishing them”.
Motivation is a huge thing in school aswell, since it’s influence that gets you to do things. There are a few issues when it come to motivation causing students to fail.“I think it's because some teachers don't make the lessons worth it or they don't engage us into it. The work is challenging sometimes too with the break-neck speed the lessons are going too it's like by the time you understand one subject everyone else is on the 2nd or 3rd lesson” commented Khloe Michel. Darcy Rosemond says, “ It's a lack of motivation. If you don't do anything in class then you're going to fail and, sometimes students don't know what's happening in class even if they pay attention”.
Continuing with motivation, there are 2 types of motivation: Intrinsic motivation which is doing something for your own good and extrinsic motivation doing something because of a reward or a punishment. Darcy Rosemond says, “Intrinsic motivation is better since if a student really cares about what they're doing then they'll want to apply themself to be better in school. Extrinsic motivation is good too since kids value their devices and money. If my mom came into my room and said if you keep all A's this semester I'll give you a $100 then I'm going to work my hardest to get all A's”. Of course, getting good grades isn’t all about motivation and rewards and punishments. A lot of things could take place, for example, atmosphere. “If the school atmosphere is droopy and bleak then the student's attitude will most likely be bleak and they won't feel as motivated to do their work”. Lenz Resendez says.
A lot of things are important when it comes to grades in schools. Keep yourself motivated and do your best.
