The funding between men and women sports is a controversial topic that has going on for decades now. Many people have different reasons and beliefs as to why men sports get more funded. More entertaining, more attractive, more popular. However, many think it is an economic and sexiest reasoning. Let’s explore the public’s opinion
Giselle Prada a girls varsity soccer player is a senior at Hillgrove Highschool. As a female athlete she sees some of the controversy firsthand. “I feel like people just see men sports just because how society is set… it’s a social norm if that makes sense”, it does. I mean if we go way back in history women sports wasn’t even a thing until the 19th century so from the dawn of time men’s sports was always more prominent. “I think it also has to do with the perspective assumptions that people have on women that they carry on to the sport, that we’re weak, too sensitive, not as aggressive as men, and if we do get aggressive, we’re being irrational or too emotional,” Gigi said. Another factor that plays into the differences is the comparisons most people make, when—is it even necessary? Can a man not get aggressive and emotional/ irrational about it or is it because he is a man that it’s normal.
“It is economical, there really isn’t anything sexiest about it, just how the money is coming” Jo (Joie) Williams is a junior basketball player at south cobb. His beliefs on the matter is that it is not anything sexiest about the issues just sole reality. Which is people tend to find men’s sports more entertaining so of course they get more money they’re getting all the publicity.
