Hate week at the Grove is nearing to an end and everybody is getting heated up for the big rival game on Friday. Every year hate week is done as a tradition where both schools go at each other with the funniest and sickest roast about one another. It’s a school effort to come up with the memes but the big thing is always the diss track usually done by the seniors.
Everyone has their favorite part about hate week. Ahmoni Mayo a senior at Hillgrove says, “I like the memes, especially the ones that are made on the student section Instagram page, they’re really funny”. The hate week for this rivalry is such a big thing that it is even put on social media for other schools and everyone to see. The ones who run the student section page put a lot of their time to make everybody excited for games and hyped up.
Janna Cleckey is a junior at Hillgrove Highschool. She said that hate week has went on for the longest, ever since she was in middle school, she remembers the rivalry being best thing when it came to any sport, “I went to Lovinggood which is the feeder school to Hillgrove, so we also had hate week …We just reposted what the highschoolers posted. Among all the Cobb County Schools Hillgrove and McEachern is one of the biggest rivals, and when the football game comes around every year the hate week is so prominent even the feeder schools of the high schools participate in the social media part of the hate week.
Not only do students love the rivalry but also the athletes. Samuel Almusa a senior defensive player on the team say the rivalry always gets him hyped up throughout the whole week and gets him pumped for the game. “Considering this is my last game, I’m really amped up on inside, hearing the diss track and looking at memes gives me hope for the game and makes me happy that my classmates hyping the team up.”
