This week I was giving the topic of the impact social media has on teens.
I felt like this was a remarkably interesting topic and I loved doing the interviews.
Social media has shown me vastly diverse ways that it can impact your life.
Seeing others hanging out without you can affect your mood like a student I interviewed at Hillgrove high school Braxton Powell brought up “Social media can make people feel like they're missing out seeing other hangout without them” which can lead to students being sad and upset. “FOMO” is a topic that is heavily pushed by social media. Fomo is the fear of missing out which is something many teens face. The way social media pushes this topic and content is allowing teens to see what others are doing 24/7 and causing them to feel like they are missing out when they see their friends spending time together without them.
On the contrary many teens feel like social media helps theme connect as a student I interview at Hillgrove high school Jc Matlock says “social media allows me to connect and stay connected to others around the world including family and friends that may not live close to you so social media is the only way we can connect. Some studies from Newport Academy suggest that the only reason that many teens are on social media is because all their friends are. this is supported by Braxton saying “I feel that I would diffidently not have any social medias if none of my friends did the only reason I have social media in the first place is to talk and connect with friends.”
Social media is a subject that’s really hard to place a label of good or bad on it in general but these interviews showed me that it can differ from person to person being a major or very small part in their life.
