The breakout Netflix reality show Love Is Blind premiered on February 13, 2020. This is Netflix’s first reality dating series to reach number one on the top ten shows in the U.S. today. This show is based on an experiment to see if love is truly blind.
The show first began by each person talking to one another without seeing their face until you are engaged to that person. The couples that successfully got engaged will experience the world together before their wedding to see if love is truly blind. This emotional rollercoaster lasted for only a couple weeks until they can be with who they love or walk away alone.
The phrase love is blind really grabs the reader's attention. Senior, Tira Uzzle, shares if she believes love is blind. She said, “Yeah, I do. I honestly feel like they all liked it each other even if they physically weren’t their type, they made it work. (Jessica is an exception) but I don't think you can marry someone in 30 days.” Senior, Venicia Twymon, shared her thoughts on the title of the shw. She said, “The concept is it’s up to people to figure out if they can put all of the odds and realistic prompts behind them and decide if love has no boundaries, age, looks, etc.” Getting married in a short amount of time could prevent you from truly loving a person. However, fan favorites Lauren and Cameron proved that theory wrong. High schooler, Mikayla Simone, favorite moment was from them. She stated, “my favorite moment was when Lauren said yes to Cameron.” Likewise, Uzzle, stated, “When cameron proposed to lauren.” She later on said that they were her favorite couple. She said, “Lauren and Cameron 100%. They were the most genuine and they knew how to communicate with each other. They always kept it real even if the other person didn’t like what they said.” Some parts of the show made people angry. Simone specifically had a moment that she did not like. She said, “Anything that had to do with Jessica talking to Barnett because it was inappropriate for her to say the things she said to him, also how angry Giannina got upset over the smallest things.” As a reality show things can get twisted, but Uzzle thought it was good to show the good and bad of each couple. She said, “I like how they showed the good and the bad of each couple. It made it seem more genuine even if it was just for drama. The breakout show made a lot of fans surprised by how popular it became. Simone stated, “To be honest I didn’t expect it to blow up. I was caught off guard because all my friends ended up watching it.” The success of the show shows that many people do believe love can be found.
Love Is Blind is one of the most popular shows of this year. Simone would recommend it to people to watch it. She said, “Yes I would recommend it because it’s an eye opener it shows you to actually like someone for who they are instead of looks.” This show validates the fact that love truly can be blind.
