The Proud Family was a show that aired on September 15th 2001 and had three seasons until 2005. The show aired on Disney Channel and was created by Bruce W. Smith. On February 27, 2020 Disney plus confirmed that The Proud Family would have a reboot called The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder. You can watch the new series on Disney Plus when it comes out.
The new show could bring back a lot of childhood memories for many. “Oh I would absolutely adore it, it sort of falls in line with the nostalgia of all of it,” Arabella Kimpson, a sophomore at Hillgrove, says. Jess Jordan, a millenial, says, “I think it’s an exciting time for older generations to see shows they watched at young kids make a comeback. With that being said, The Proud Family is one show [whos] comeback is profound because all the original voice actors will return.”
With the new season coming along, there may be some things viewers would like to see. “I’d love it if they used the original theme, who doesn’ love a good throwback?” Mia Alexander says. Some viewers might like to see the first episode start a certain way. Jordan also says, “If The Proud Family were to change their theme song I would be a little sad. If they’re bringing the show back and everything but the storyline should be the same. Not that I wouldn’t watch the airing of the show but I would be disappointed..” Kimpson says, “I guess they would pick up 15 years later with Penny figuring out college or life and everyone [would be] all grown up, and the dad would probably make a joke on how Sugar Mama is still alive. Haha!”
The Proud Family had many controversial subjects that had opened many viewers' eyes at a young age, such as, sexism and the size of someone's body. Some think they will continue to do this. Jordan says, “I believe the show will address problems that young black teenages go through on a daily basis in the current society. I think we will see how Penny and her support system, [her] family and friends, overcome these problems.” Although many think that the new season(s) of The Proud Family will address problems that might not relate to them others disagree. Jordan says, “The reason I feel races and ages are able to watch the show is because Penny’s circle (friends, family, and school classmates) are of different ages and race[s]. Here is one person on the show that viewers will be able to relate to.
