Planned Parenthood Battling Government Support By: Lee Ann Higgins
Planned Parenthood is a resource that has been around for a long time. They have and still are helping millions of Americans with family planning throughout the United States. Many organizations such as Ford, Starbucks, and Nike have donated billions of dollars to the cause. Other wealthy people have also donated, but the very top donator is a company named the “Susan Thompson Buffet.” These funds are made from private organizations, but the main issue everyone is wondering about is if the government wants to continue to aid Planned Parenthood.
Medicaid and Medicare can easily become confused amongst each other. On Planned Parenthood’s site they state, “Most of Planned Parenthood’s federal funding is from Medicaid reimbursements for preventive care, and some is from Title X.” Not only is Medicaid mainly organized for young adults, but the difference between the two is quite shocking. Medicaid is designed more for low-income families and it is primarily operated by the states. Medicare is for individuals over the age of 65. Medicare is managed by an integrated business. Medicaid is the main form Planned Parenthood uses for their clients due to some being deprived of money. Planned Parenthood passes on the document to Medicaid, then Medicaid repays the Planned Parenthood organization for their treatment. After that happens, Medicaid’s office sends a bank note to the government for them to pay. With that being said, Planned Parenthood has many people turn heads over how they view the educational standpoint of intercourse being discussed.
Planned Parenthood has claimed “More than 93 percent of parents describe comprehensive sex education in schools as extremely important to them.” Providing better sex education is the goal. A tenth-grade student from Hillgrove High School named Kayla Roper said, “It can be an extent to warn kids of what may happen if they’re not careful and to do them once a year.” Without good sex education teen pregnancies will rise even more in the future if something is not done now.
With all the benefits that Planned Parenthood provides for some, not everyone agrees with the fact of paying taxes towards it. The opposing side believes that requiring everyone to pay for a service they do not agree with is unreasonable. As quoted from an article written by Sarah Schwartzenberger a writer from UC Blue Ash College “Planned Parenthood becomes an expense for every taxpayer. A big chunk of money goes into the non-profit company. With all the money circling around the organization, Planned Parenthood becomes a billion dollar expense to citizens.” On the contrary, some do not mind paying if they know it is helping.
The Affordable care Act was insured by Ex-president, Barack Obama. The intentions of the service were to allow healthcare to be given at a lower cost. It is most commonly known as Obamacare. Quoted from the passage written from Healthcare.gov, “Expand the Medicaid program to cover all adults with income below 138% of the federal poverty level. (Not all states have expanded their Medicaid programs.” It was used to make a larger web of coverage for Medicare and Medicaid. These forms of insurances are used by Planned Parenthood as well as some other organizations. Other organizations include Kaiser Permanente, Children’s Health Insurance Program, and Humana.
Planned Parenthood is a profound organization and is used to lend a helping hand to those who struggle financially. As many as there are people who agree with what they stand for, there are others who do not. Of course, this topic can be looked at in many ways. An abundance of individuals continue to have hope for the program. Ana Higgins a mother of two stated “I hope people in the organization work for the good of others in need. Economically I hope they have the funds they need; I hope for education, contraception is the focus of the organization.” She is one out of many who stay positive through this time.
Planned Parenthood has affected many lives in their process. With everything going on in the world, this topic’s answer remains undecided. Planned Parenthood has done several things that has impacted the world, especially for women and those growing from adolescence to adulthood. Everyone has a voice and now is the time to use it.
