Kobe Bryant, what many considered an idol, legend, icon, and much more has passed away. Kobe Bryant, who was 41, and eight other passengers, including his daughter Gianna Bryant, who was 13, died in a tragic helicopter crash on January 26, 2020.
Angel Edwards, a sophomore at Hillgrove High School, is part of the people who did not take the death lightly. “Um I was surprised at first, and I did not believe it for like two days straight. But now I'm just like dang who would have thought.” Like others, Kobe’s death was a complete shock to Angel. Many people around the world could not believe Kobe was gone. Some believe people were lying or even playing a prank. “I think it’s [Kobe’s death] going to push athletes to just work and just never stop, you know what I'm saying, never stop trying to achieve their dreams.” Kobe’s death was an eye opener to many people. It mainly told people to achieve what you want to achieve while you can because life is too short.
Jordan Amlett, also a sophomore at Hillgrove High School, could not believe the horrifying news. “ When I heard the news, um I was actually very heart broken, I had no words I just cried. It taught me to stop taking life for granted.” Many Kobe fans did not have words to express how they felt. Others started to reflect on their life and make changes. “Since I was a baby, I've known of Kobe because my uncle used to tell me Kobe was his favorite player, he actually was one of my favorite players.” Kobe gained his fans through the NBA. He was an amazing basketball player that inspired many from a young age. Kobe recently retired from the NBA to spend time with his family. “I think it was very heartless and it was actually disrespectful that they [TMZ] dropped the news before the police could tell the families.” On the morning of January 26, TMZ dropped the news that the helicopter that was caring for Kobe Brayant crashed and there were no survivors. The world also did not take this lightly and felt it was very disrespectful, especially because the police had not informed the families of the loved ones.
Arianna Hutchoson, a sophomore at Hillgrove High School also had some things to say about the death of Kobe Bryant. “ It's very rude to me, it was nine people who died, and I understand Kobe was big and famous, but they don't have any sympathy for those other lives.” Since Kobe was such an inspiration to many people, people tend to forget about the other lives lost in the incident, and some people are not too happy about it.
Kobe Bryant will surely be missed. The world will never be able to forget how great of a man he was.
