Fridays have always been a favorite for teenagers, but last Friday was particularly interesting when UGA head coach Kirby Smart surprised high schools all over Georgia in a helicopter, no less. When Kirby finally reached Hillgrove he was greeted by Principal Stewart and other faculty including Coaches. Smart took a tour of our sport facilities and even had the opportunity to meet some of our more prominent athletes.
With junior year and sophomore year being over in just a few months, many of our athletes have to consider where they want to play and who they want to play for when they graduate. Schools like University of Georgia,University of Alabama, University of Michigan, and Notre Dame are known for their excellence in the world of collegiate football. Considering that many players hope to go on to the NFL, going to the right school matters. However there are numerous factors when considering schools: academics, coaches, athletics, rankings, proximity to home, not to mention who will give the biggest scholarship. So how do athletes decide? How do they stay in shape during the off season? What are there hopes for the collegiate level? And more importantly, do they want to go on to the NFL?
A few hillgrove football players share their opinions. “I don't plan to start my first year, but it'll be great to do that. Ultimately my goal is to get a masters degree in architectural engineering ,” says Miles Murphy, a sophomore who plays as a defense end on our football team. “Picking the right school, getting my degree, playing early as a freshman those types of things,” says Jaylen McCollough, a junior who plays running back on our team and runs for the track team as well. Looks like our athletes are ready to take on the world.
