The Global impact of the CoronaVirus
By: Kaya Wilson
Covid -19 or the corona virus was first introduced in Wuhan, China back in December 2019. Since then this virus has spread around the whole world at an exponential rate. It has swept across nations, causing unemployment rates to skyrocket, there have been 936,000 deaths globally, caused by people not social distancing, and washing their hands. These actions have consequences especially to people that have compromised immune systems. Unfortunately, there are people that live in areas that ignore Covid guidelines that try and keep people safe. The steps the world takes to stop the spread of this virus will help the world recover from loss that may have occurred. Whether it is a business, a loved one, or their own health.
Billie Billups who owns her own zero balancing company has had to shut her business. “It is totally wiped off for now, I have had to look at new ways of doing business…. I have essentially decided to work virtually.” working from home has become the new reality for most people around the world. However, there are people who can not perform their careers at home. Tiffany Wilson is a teacher in Fulton County Georgia, “I have had to go to work and teach students from their homes…. I wear a mask and practice proper hygiene while in the school building.” Tiffany has bought an expensive medical mask to protect herself, and has been very cautious once she is home to not spread it to her family. She has also bought special masks for her Kindergarten students if they do come back to school face to face. This pandemic has altered so many lives. Including Tiffany who is concerned for the health of her, her students, and co workers.
Isaiah Wilson who is a freshman in college at Florida A&M University, has also been greatly impacted. “You don’t really get the interaction with your teacher you kind of have to teach yourself.” Isaiah, who is doing remote learning at college wishes he could learn face to face, because in his experience it is more effective. Many college students in the U.S are seeing increases in corona cases because of the lack of social distancing and partying during this pandemic. The corona virus has impacted millions of lives all over the world. Many other countries like New Zealand and Thailand have gone 100 days without any local cases. If other countries can manage to become coronavirus free for that long so can the rest of the world, if we follow their same protocol. The plan to normalize or to get the world back to the way things were before the pandemic is to introduce a vaccine. Live updates however, have shown this vaccine won’t slow down the pandemic for six to nine months.
