At Hillgrove there are JV teams to help place kids where they need to be, so they can be challenged to improve. JV teams help players get prepared to play for Varsity in their junior and senior year. Specifically, JV football at Hillgrove has been working hard to get better.
JV team plays on Thursdays at 7:30 pm for both home and away games. Sophomore Tahj Reese, who is a running back for the JV team says, “ We practice 3 days a week from 4-6ish sometimes longer sometimes shorter. It depends.” The practices 3 days a week , which is kinda a lot of days to practice, but they have to get ready for their games so they can be prepared. Resse is a running back, and a running back is someone who runs the ball from the quarterback. As an individual, he would like to improve on giving 100% effort from the start. Effort is important for any sport. It’s almost like a motivation to do something. The reason Resse plays is because , “ ...of the excitement on game days at practices, it is a big stress reliever and it keeps me in shape and out of trouble.”
Another player on the JV team is, Sean Copper, a sophomore and a running back. He has been playing since she was 6 years old . When preparing for game days Sean says the team, “ We watch film and then we run scout defense to do what there defense does and then have the offensive like run up against it.” Preparing for games are very important. Also, a lot of sleep the night before is relevant, so they can prepare well. The JV team is also improving a lot more. Copper feels , “ We actually got better, but we need to be less individual players and start working as a team.” Working as a team and working as one makes the teams performance better .
Now, the rivals are McEachern. The team is playing them in 2 weeks, and they are preparing now . In order for them to win , the team needs to work together, and do not be individual players, because there is no I in team. McEachern and Hillgrove has always been rivals , because when Hillgrove first opened people from McEachern and other schools were zoned for Hillgrove. So it was just tension from the start. The JV team is looking for a win!
The JV team is improving every year. The team is working as a team. Instead of being individual. Everyone is excited to see what the JV team brings for the rest of their season .
