Joker is a movie that came out October 4, 2019. Arther Fleck is the main character that plays “The Joker” in the movie. The movie takes place in a city called Gotham City. It is a city where all superheroes live. This city is science fiction, and does not exist in the real world. In Gotham City, mentally-troubled comedian, Arthur Fleck is disregarded and mistreated by society. He then embarks on a downward spiral of revenge and bloody crime. This path brings him face-to-face with his alter-ego “The Joker.”
The movie had a meaningful theme. Joker showed how a nice person can be treated by humanity. It gave a really powerful message to its audience. Luis Garcia-Cano, a freshman at Berry College, believes that its message is, “to be nice to people because you never know what a person is going through. So being nice never costs anything.” Tamia Brice, a sophomore at Hillgrove High School, has not seen the movie. She states that by just watching the trailer, it shows how Joker was trying to be nice in the beginning, but people were being rude. Miss Brice states, “Even though I haven't seen the movie, just by the trailer, I predict that the message is trying to give is about how the nice guy finishes last.” Another reason why Mr. Garcia-Cano also believes that these types of movies leave a message for humanity is because of how people get treated by rude people. He claims, “ This movie does leave a message for humanity because people should realize that if someone is trying to be nice then you should be nice because it doesn’t hurt you or anyone to be pure-hearted.” Whether seen or not seen, people should consider being nice to people no matter what.
Even though the movie was a really good film to watch, the ending made everyone that watched it rethink the whole movie. (WARNING SPOILER) At the end of the movie, the Joker was sitting in a room with his consular while laughing. His consular asked him what he was laughing about. He replied, “You wouldn’t get it, it’s a joke.” Throughout the movie Joker would make illusions about things he would want. He met a lady in an elevator and then made delusional thoughts about her. People think that the whole movie was just him making delusions about how things would turn out if he actually did those things he was thinking about.(SPOILER ENDS) Garcia-Cano, believes it was all a delusion. He claims, “The whole movie was a delusion in my opinion because towards the end it just made sense when the Joker said ‘you wouldn’t get it, it’s a joke.’ Especially when he made everyone that watched it believe that the girl he met was actually his girlfriend.” Overall, the movie was great and had the audience thinking on their feet.
Being nice to people is never hard to do, especially because you never know what a person is going through. Joker teaches you how humanity can be rude and affect a person's mental health. Joker is a movie where even if you do not like watching movies that are science-fictional, you will enjoy. Watching it would not hurt one bit, so grab snacks, sit and enjoy.
