Jesus is King Makes A Stand

    Throughout the years, rapper, Kanye West, has released countless amount of albums. West’s songs have been mainly secular and have ranged in many different styles. However, on October 25, Kanye West dropped a new album that creates controversy, it is called Jesus Is King.

    Jesus Is King is an eleven track album which primarily falls under the “Christian Rap” genre. The album was originally supposed to be released on September 27th, but was later released on October 25. When West was shifting from secular to gospel music, he had started a Sunday service. From the beginning of 2019, he has held a service every Sunday. The services have consisted of worship and a few songs from his album. West has been calling this, “Sunday Service.”
Kanye West has made a sudden change in his style of music which leaves mixed opinions amongst fans. A sophomore at Hillgrove, Faith Whitaker said, “I feel like he's kind of turning into a Christian artist but I really hope this new album marks him as like a Christian artist and I hope he's not doing the album just for like money.”

   Sophomore, Jonah Hildreth, said, “So far, I think it's a really good album, one of Kanye’s best.”

    Lacie Duling, from Powder Springs, said, “I've enjoyed what I have heard and it's been really cool just cause even alone, the stand of the album alone has such a strong stand and for someone that had never taken a stand for Christ or religion before.”

    West’s album might confuse fans but also leaves a big impact on the Christian community. Hildreth stated, “I personally I think a lot of words in the song make a connection with, a lot of the stuff so I’m guessing it will make a connection with many other Christians.” 

    Whitaker explained, “Well, since Kanye West used to rap about some really non-Christian stuff, some Christians are going to be happy about it, some aren't. It just depends on who that person is.” 

    When asked the question: Will the Christian community welcome this with open arms? Duling replied, “I really hope so. Again, unfortunately, the Christian community is very diverse in the aspect of people saying they’re Christian but they're not living it out completely, so there are going to be some people that claim to be Christians that their actions haven’t completely shown it yet...I'm definitely welcoming him into this family because it's not for me to judge, that's all to Jesus.”

    Although Kanye West is a controversial figure, Jesus Is King has been the ultimate comeback of the negative connotations of life.
