Veteran actor Jamie Lee Curtis has been set to reprise her role as Laurie Strode in the next upcoming installment of the Halloween film franchise. In February of this year, it was announced by famous horror movie director John Carpenter that a true sequel to his 1978 horror classic Halloween was in production. The film will supposedly satisfy fans of the original film who were less than pleased with the quality of the numerous sequels as well as the reboot directed by Rob Zombie, the latter of which was panned by critics and called “mediocre” by Hillgrove student Thomas Bartlett. Months later, in order to further prove the intention of doing the original film justice, Jason Blum, the sequel’s financer, announced Jamie Lee Curtis, the original film’s star actress, will be returning to the series after 16 years. This news has since gotten horror fans excited, as Curtis’s reprisal as Laurie Strode had been seen as a sign that both John Carpenter, who will be heavily involved in the project, and Blum are keeping their promise.
John Carpenter’s Halloween is considered to be one of the greatest horror movies ever made, mostly for its introduction of many of the tropes commonly used in slasher movies today. Halloween’s success inspired other famous films such as Friday the 13th and Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street. However, after the first movie’s release, numerous sequels were made, with the first sequel being decent and the others declining in quality as they were released. The next installment in the franchise is scheduled for release in October of 2018, and will be the ninth installment in the series. It will be executively produced by John Carpenter and directed by David Gordon Green. The last Halloween movie to be released was the sequel to Rob Zombie’s reboot of the franchise, which received abysmal reviews across the board.
