The new Snow-White movie that is coming out in 2024 has gained a lot of publicity, but not for the right reasons. The originals Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs was released in 1937. It was the first Disney princess movie to be made and to this day its still a classic.
Many people on social media apps like “Tik Tok” and “Facebook” are outraged at the changes made to the new remake. One thing that was changed is how there will be no “7 Dwarfs” now they are called “7 magical creatures” so the movie is inclusive. Cameron Gezovich, a student at Hillgrove High School, shared, “I just don’t get it. I mean wouldn’t it be more inclusive if they hired people who have dwarfism? I mean they rarely get to be on screen because of their condition so this was the perfect opportunity to include them.” In today’s society and in the film industry they try their hardest to make everyone equal and include all different types of things but in a remake does changing the original characters to ones that don’t resemble them at all good for how people view an treat the movie?
Most of the argument is surrounded around Rachel Zeigler, the actress playing snow white in the remake. Rachel explained in an interview that she originally found Snow White and the 7 dwarfs scary and only watched it once up until she auditioned, that she hated the movie and the Snow White ride at Disney land. Sarah Kline a 11th grade student at Hillgrove Highschool, shared her opinion on this topic; “why is she playing snow white if she hates the movie? There were probably many other actors who loved the movie and wanted that part.” It seems although many individuals have a similar stance on how they feel about remake and its actresses.
Rachel Ziegler also shared that the new snow white will not get saved by the prince and will not dream about love but instead leadership. Hannah Willcox, a Student at Hillgrove, argued, “I don’t get why they would remake the movie if the whole plot is going to be changed. And being saved by the prince was a huge part of Disney. Like it makes it seem like you can find love while also taking on leadership. Are we only allowed to do one or the other”? this movie has been changed so much to where it seems drastically different from the original.
The whole movie has had so much backlash to the point fans are saying they will not be watching the remake because it’s so upsetting. would it be worth a watch?
