When it comes to trying new things without proper advertisement, some people might be hesitant to show up and support. Earlier this month, Hillgrove put together their very first powderpuff volleyball game. With help from Coach Gafney and the volleyball team the event was able to be a remarkable success! Powderpuff is when one gender partakes in a sport that is normally dominated by the opposite gender. So, for girls; football and for boys; volleyball. The event is supposed to be important and help raise money for different charities, but for our first year we went with the flow and created some pretty cool memories along the way. Cole Bigalow, a senior, voiced his thoughts “I decided to sign up because I knew it would be a fun experience. I had no idea how it would turn out, but I think that was a core memory for me definitely”
Being able to contribute to creating core memories would make any school feel good. So, it must be unfortunate that when the players looked around there was barely any support. “Honestly, it felt kind of embarrassing at first because barely anyone came to watch us, but after I started playing and interacting with my team it turned out to be one of the best times” Source, junior, made it clear he wanted to stay anonymous but believed it was important enough to be heard.
After many trials and tribulations, the game ended. With the senior class winning the tournament, it left the room with a lot of excitement and screams. Ian Gomez, a senior, chimed in to discuss his opinions on the game. “After playing in this tournament, I would definitely do it again. Even though a lot of people didn’t show up I still had a really great time.” Moral of the story: Support your school Hawks!
