After high school there are many different routes you can take including starting your own business, getting trade jobs, starting an entertainment channel, or going to college. However, college isn’t for everyone, but most people are forced to go to college just because that is the most traditional thing to do after high school, but times are changing, and college might not be the best route for everyone. Studies show that 43% of high school graduates start their businesses or just don’t go to college. Some people might think that college is a waste of time, and some people think that it helps you gain an advantage in life. There are many degrees you can get in college. When you have a degree period you have a boosted chance to get the job you apply for because you went to college.
Lukas Power a Sophomore at Hillgrove High School explains, “You don’t exactly need to go to college because all of the other opportunities there are to be successful in life… Going to college can be a good because there are lots of opportunities there and you can get better jobs because you have a degree.” A writer for SNHU explains people with postsecondary degrees earn more than a person with only a high school diploma. “College can impact a person’s future by getting them a good job or further opportunities.” Power disagrees. “I don’t think college should be mandatory because college isn’t for everyone, and you shouldn’t force someone to do something they don’t want to do.”
Brody Bond a sophomore at Hillgrove High School explains, “College is not a waste of time because there are a lot of opportunities and other things… College can be a good thing because they provide good opportunities.” Bond continues “I think a person that didn’t go to college can be more successful than a person that did go to college because they are on one mission and the person that is in college is taking classes and doing other things.” Bond theorizes in the past 3 years there has been an increase in self-employed people after high school. “I think that the world is turning into more of a self-employed world because of the other opportunities.” Bond states.
Braxton Powell a sophomore at Hillgrove states, “If I had kids I really wouldn’t care if they wanted to go to college or not because it’s not for everyone… I would say that college offers more because you can get degrees and have more opportunities for jobs.” Powell says. “You can be successful without college because you can start your own business or do other things.” Powell states.
When the time comes when you’re a senior in high school and you’re wondering if you must go to college, know that there are other ways to be successful in life. You can do a trade, you can start your own business, or you can start an entertainment channel. You can also go to the college route and have a better chance at getting jobs.
