With homecoming week activities starting students are getting excited for what is to come. Homecoming festivities this year will be kicked off with our dance Saturday, September 15th. Tickets cost $20 and you may use your sports pass as a ticket to get in. The week that follows will be a spirit week with dress up days leading up to game day. The dress up days will be as followed: Monday- meme day, Tuesday- teacher student swap day, Wednesday- decades day, Thursday- movie character day, Friday- school spirit day. The homecoming game will be held on September 21st against South Forsyth, with a homecoming parade that leads up to kick-off. You are able to use your sports pass to get into the game as well and regular tickets are $5 for students and $7 for adults. Homecoming court winners will be announced during half-time with a band performance at the end of the game.
Many students are ready for the 2018 homecoming dance. “It's fun to dress up, take pictures, go out to a nice dinner and dance,” said Justice Musgrave a junior at Hillgrove. This is true for many students and is one of the reasons why the school encourages you to go; have fun and enjoy yourself you only go through high school once.
There has been a lot of controversy on the subject of the date changes for homecoming. “Normally it is in October. Enough time to fully adjust to classes and get to know people more so that you have someone to go to the dance with,”said Darcy Phillips a student at Hillgrove. While a lot of people agree with her, some think that it is actually more convenient such as Venicia Twymon, “If it was in October, I most likely would not be able to attend because marching band usually has a competition every saturday of October.”
Spirit week is a huge part of homecoming week that leads up to the big game. This year they have incorporated many student ideas into the spirit day ideas. “Favorite thing about hoco week is the dress up days I guess,” said Justice Musgraves. Many students feel the same and are already trying to figure out which meme to recreate and which teacher would be the funniest to mimic.
Homecoming week is going to be so much fun and you do not want to miss out.
