Homecoming

Homecoming season is a season of having fun and enjoying the company of other peers. It’s about individuality but also coming togetherness. Hillgrove comes together for late night dancing and memories. The homecoming of the year 2022 will be actioned on September 17. The homecoming football game will be on the 16th, we will play against Chambell High. The game will begin at 7:30pm. During halftime the homecoming courts will come on the field and be presented for the students and family to see dressed in formal attire. All cheerleaders will be performing at the game. The cheer and football coaches have information on the homecoming game.
According to Elliot Welling, who is in 11th grade, states “The music is very fun, I liked the music... Could use improvement, more rap... The theme should be more retro but with a twist of modern music.” Elliot’s opinion on Hillgrove’s homecoming pride is that he loves it, when the whole school can come together for a good time and how we can get along and enjoy high school life as a community. He likes the memories of homecoming, and he wishes it was longer for more fun. He even thinks that the homecoming dance is like caffeine, he wakes him up and gets him excited for more school events. He also believes that going with a date versus a group of friends is better because he likes girls more than his friends.
Courtney, a 10th grade student, has many opinions as well. For the homecoming dance, “The dance was over-staffed and for photobooth they need an additional line. So, 2 lines to make the picture taking a quicker process. He thinks “People who throw water into the crowd are cool but immature” He explains how they know how to have fun, but they don’t know when enough is enough. He has strong opinions about going by himself. He believes in saying that “Going with a date is a waste of time” He would much rather enjoy the company of himself. He thinks that the proposals for homecoming were good and a good way to ask someone. He is going to wear black, it’s a chill, relaxed color and looks good on anyone. He also doesn’t like to dance with girls. He likes to be with himself and maybe a few friends.
Alanna Aires, a 10th grader who loves homecoming and preparing for the dance, says “It’s better to go to the dance with a group of friends.” Because it's better safe than sorry. Plus, you are more comfortable with people you know better, it would be more awkward to go with a boy or girl as a date. “A lot of the colors worn at homecoming are black and blue because it’s simple but elegant colors.” She sees a lot of people wearing these colors and she enjoys seeing them. Alanna states “The best way to ask a person to homecoming is with candy and a bouquet of flowers with a sign.” She feels excited to see more people get asked. To prepare for the dance is to buy her dress and get her nails done at a salon. And before she will take pictures, to save herself from ruining her hair and makeup and then after going out to eat with her friends. She says, “This is the best way to approach homecoming” From last year’s dance experience. Alanna feels like there should be actual meals for homecoming instead of popcorn and water because a lot of people were hungry. She wants to be dancing instead of watching because dancing is more entertaining to her. She is not as excited as other people at Hillgrove about Ms. Stewart allowing students to bring people under the age of 20 to attend the dance because she wasn’t on planning on bringing anyone and she has no desire to. She thinks Homecoming has good but some bad parts to the dance. But overall, Alanna loves the homecoming dance.
