The homecoming parade happened last Friday on October eighteenth, to wrap up homecoming week. The parade started at Still Elementary and ended at Hillgrove Highschool. The parade takes most students through their memories of years in school by going past all the schools they attended in the past. The parade included different clubs, all level of cheerleading squads, and homecoming court nominees. Many clubs make floats to be able to ride in throughout the parade, but many others just walked for the mile distance of the parade.
During the parade anyone who was involved in it could choose to pass out candy to kids’ watching the parade. Barbara Edmonds, a sophomore on hoco court, stated, “I loved to watch the little kids faces light up as they would run to grab as much candy as they could.” The parade is a great place for families to go watch and is very entertaining for family members of all ages.
During the parade, hoco nominees would ride through in a convertible with a banner on the side showing who they were, and which grade they were representing. The nominees get to ride with a parent who drive them through the parade. This is an honor for most who get the chance to be on court. Edmonds, stated, “I felt honored to be in the parade cause like I was chosen by my class to be in the parade and on court out of everyone in my class.”
For people watching it can seem very beautiful and well organized. Ethan Bobo, a Hillgrove junior who went to the parade, stated, “The parade seemed very busy, like there was a lot going on but like everyone knew where they were supposed to be, like it had been set up well.” The parade takes a lot of planning by a lot of different people. It does not just happen overnight it takes weeks of planning and effort to get it to work smoothly. It may seem organized to people watching, which is the point, but for people in it the parade can seem a bit overwhelming. Grace Horton, a freshman cheerleader who was in the parade, stated, “I just wish it could've been a little more organized cause I was confused on what I was supposed to be doing half the time.”
The parade is a great place for families to spend one Friday a year and a place for students to be able to show off their school spirit. After the parade students can go enjoy the hoco game. The parade was the perfect way to wrap up a great hoco week.
