This past week Hillgrove had their Homecoming game against Kennesaw Mountain Highschool. All the players were excited because they had heard of their past records. Kennesaw scored on us for the first time in their season this year. Many people showed up to see how this would pan out. The homecoming court was nice and large this year, being the first time that there have been men voted into court. That took place during half-time, while the players were getting ready to go out and take the win over Kennesaw. The final score of the game was 52-27.
Kailey Wyatt, a Hillgrove sophomore, attended the game this past Friday. She talks about Kennesaw making their first touchdown on us, stating, “That made me really mad because the boys should’ve practiced harder this week, even after coming back from what happened the week before and should have blown them out.” Wyatt believes everyone's mentality changed after that touchdown because: “Oh yea you could tell on their faces all of them were just sad and knew they had to change it around.” She says, “Um probably the coaches put some sense into them and told them to stop messing around and take it serious.”
Nyla Harvey, also a student of Hillgrove Highschool, talks about this game. She states, “Um I felt good because we won.” Harvey thinks, “I think we stopped trying so hard because we were in the lead.” She believes, “I think we are going to make it to the championships.” Michelle Aliu, a Hillgrove sophomore, has some thoughts on what went down. She believes, “Um I don’t think we slacked off. I just think they didn’t put as much effort in as they would’ve for Mceachern or something.” Aliu believes something changed in the locker room during halftime. She says, “Probably because they noticed how Kennesaw picked up their pace and got better this year, and their coach probably talked to them and their like yeah we are going to have to get this win because it’s Homecoming.”
Many people agree that since Kennesaw's past was not the best, the Hillgrove students and football team did not care as much or prepare for this game. Although we still won the other team did not disappoint in doing all they could to possibly beat Hillgrove. After halftime, Hillgrove came back strong with the final score being 52 to 27.
