This week throughout the school coaches were interviewed on+ on their thoughts on players and the upcoming season. I also asked about their preference while coaching and reasoning for coaching. Second year Head coach of the Hillgrove football team Justin Deshon, who went 2-8 last season, was asked, "did you play this sport as a kid Deshon responded with “Yep played in in high school and then played 5 years of division 1 ball at southeast Missouri state.” When asked why he chose this sport he answered with “My dad played football and was a coach and football was all I knew.” He then began to respond with “I knew that being a coach was goanna be my career path when I got to collage.” Love for the game is apparent but will this love for the game translate to the season so far think yes Hillgrove is now 1-1 heading into the 3rd week of high school football. When asked what his expectations are for this season he said, “A winning season.” Which as of right now is looking very plausible. When asked on some of his coaching presences and players he finds easiest to coach he responded with “Uhhh those that are hungry and want to get better.” Will that mind set carry them to the playoffs this season?
My next interview was with the 2nd year Head coach of the Hillgrove’s jv Basketball team which went 9-8 last season Chis Lowther. What excites you most as a coach “ Uhh just coming in here and socializing with the students and getting to know them and what they like to do and you know just making everybody happy.” Which seems to be work as his team finished 9-8 last season and from what I can tell and what I have seem in the hallways he’s a very energetic coach. When asked about coaching any other sports he responded with. “Sure, I would with track a look or cross-country, stuff like that I like ultimate Frisby I really want that to be and event at this school.” When asked if he has had coaching experience before he answered with. “Yeah, I’ve coached at numerous places before I was at Rutland high school in Macon Georgia then I was at veterans’ middle school in Covington Georgia then south cobb.”. Apparently, defense is the name of the game for the JV team as Lowther stated, “Im more of a defensive minded coach, at the end of the day you gotta put the ball in the hole, but you gotta stop people from shooting so I say defense wins.” This mindset very much applies to this team as they kept all their games within an arm’s reach.
Hillgrove expects a lot of success from its sports teams this year, but will these coaches be up to the task and deliver on their promises?
